Definitions:
Family:
a caregiver/parent of a child that has or is receiving services from a
public child family service system
Youth:
a person under age 25 that has or is receiving services from a public child
family service system
Family Partner/ Family Support
Partner: a person who
meets the above Family definition and is employed and identified as a peer for families/youth
currently receiving services.
Youth Partner/ Youth Support Partner: a person who meets the above Youth
definition and is employed and identified as a peer for families/youth
currently receiving services.
Professional Partner: anyone employed or a volunteer at a agency
and/or community based organization that provides services to families, youth and/or children that is not
identified as a family/youth peer.

practice of working with and supporting Family/Youth Partners at both the agency and individual levels and assist
participants in incorporating the principles’ of Family Youth Professional Partnership at various program

Description:
As a result of training, Family/Youth Partner shall receive introduction to the
concepts of:
A) Working with CSOC providers and County of San Diego CMHS to
provide input to the mental health system on a policy and administrative level through the variety of roles
family/youth partners have. B) Providing additional support
and linkage to other services and community resources to families and youth currently receiving services, as a

Pathways to Partnership -San Diego 40 hours intense
training
Description:
This training guides family and youth who have had involvement with public systems, from being a recipient of
services to opening opportunities to become a “partnership broker”. This training teaches family and youth to
utilize their experience <as a recipient of services from a public child-family serving system> to assist
other family, youth and providers to better understand the cultural differences, system mandates, and roles within
a Children’s System of Care for Family and Youth Partners. Furthermore, this training provides experiential
activities that assist family or youth to identify a meaningful career path within a Children’s System of
Care. Provides an in-depth review of roles for family/youth
involvement, as well as prepares recipients to serve family and youth receiving services, to identify resources,
linkages and support systems, that assist in meeting goals. Furthermore, this training supports a cohesive
foundation for the roles & responsibilities of Family & Youth Partners, thus providing the community with
consistency in training and an organized service-delivery support for the advancement of Family-Youth-Partners as a
career.
